Beck House sets new residential standards for supported housing

Beck House Officially Dedicated: The Arc of Atlantic County recently dedicated its 11th and newest group home in Hammonton, NJ.  The home was dedicated as Beck House in recognition of a generous gift from Peter and Debbie Beck to The Arc’s Building The Arc Together Campaign.  The campaign raised a total of $1.2 million to help The Arc expand, renovate and acquire properties.  Guests at the dedication got a first-hand experience of a beautiful, state-of-the-art, community based residence that anyone would be proud to call home.

“Beck House is a perfect example of how The Arc of Atlantic County builds livable and desirable residential facilities in communities while improving neighborhoods and anchoring property values,” said Michael David-Wilson, CEO. “Monarch Housing Associates helped The Arc secure funds for development and construction of Beck House. Kitchen and Associates created the beautiful and functional architectural design and Continisio Builders of Hammonton translated that vision into the award-winning home it is today.”

The Arc’s Beck House project was chosen by the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey as recipient of the 2014 Supportive Housing Project Award in the Small-Scale Development Category.  Patricia Jones, COO of The Arc of Atlantic County; the lead for The Arc in development of Beck House, received the award at SHA’s 16th annual NJ Supportive Housing Conference on Friday, December 5th, 2014. “It’s a great demonstration of how cities like Hammonton, the State’s Department of Developmental Disabilities and individuals like the Becks are partnering with The Arc to expand housing support for people with developmental disabilities,” said Patricia Jones. Last calendar year 170 people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) received residential services in Atlantic County. Three more new group homes are expected to open shortly in Egg Harbor Township and will house a total of 10 residents.  “The Arc is most grateful to all who have helped make the residential capacity we have today a reality,” said David-Wilson.
